Creative Writing Contest Reminder:

For those of you who get the Study Guide edition, remember the Creative Writing contest announced in the February issue. The deadline is September 30, 2021, but you may submit anytime.

For those who were not subscribed to the Study Guide in February, you may upgrade to the Study Guide edition, and order February as a back issue. Call 1-540-867-0764 to make the upgrade. See page 5 for Study Guide prices.

And now, in this magazine we are introducing a “Wildflower ‘Learning By Doing’ contest.” You can do this with your family or friends. A complete list of rules is found on page 21.

The contest will include some awards. We do not know just what they will be as I write this, and neither do we know how many. But there will be some, and they will be fun.

So follow the instructions and do your best. Invite your family and/or friends, and go for a hike. Don’t forget a field guide to identify your findings. Enjoy.

A monarch chrysalis is first emerald green. As it matures, it becomes transparent. Once the butterfly emerges, fluid is pumped from the abdomen into the wings. Over the next several hours the wings harden.
