The Night of the Aurora

‘Twas the night of the aurora,
And all through the land,
The people were watching
With anticipation grand.

Couldn’t tell when they’d come,
For they’re hard to predict;
So we sat in the darkness
While the time slowly ticked.

The night chill set in;
More clothes were obtained,
For we wanted to be toasty
While the brightest lights reigned.

A few glows we had spotted,
But not what we’d dreamed.
More patience was needed,
For they dawdled, it seemed.

“Now some fingers are darting!
Do you see them?” asked Dad.
The lights were arriving!
No more cause to be sad.

Oh, how beautiful they became!
How exotic! How bizarre!
Glorious and radiant
And around here—rare!

Now a curtain was waving
Up there in the sky.
It shimmered and shook;
‘Twas pleasing to the eye.

And up in the center
Was one big bright ball—
Imagined ‘twas God’s eye
Looking down on us all.
