Ghost of the Mountains

Morgan Brown, 12, Port Haywood, VA

In the hush of the Himalayas,
where wind threads through stone like a hymn,
a shadow slips between the cliffs—
not seen, but known.

Snow leopard, spirit-cat,
cloaked in frost and quiet,
you walk where breath shivers
and even time holds its tongue.

Your paws are prayers pressed into snow,
your gaze, a language of mountains—
wild, wordless,
eternally still.

You move like myth—
a flick of pale tail,
a sigh of muscle vanishing
into the body of the storm.

And near the world’s roof,
beneath stars cold as truth,
you are more than animal.
You are intention.

For who but God
could shape such silence into strength,
such solitude into grace?
Who but God could dream
a creature so fierce, so fleeting,
yet stitched with gentleness
like a whisper in stone?

You are not just made—
you are designed,
set like a jewel
into the crown of creation.
