Home is ’round a campfire
When flames are dancing high,
Shadows flickering up the trees,
A wild loon’s eerie cry;
Where a crescent moon is shining
Through dark and lonely trees,
With branches swaying softly
In evening’s gentle breeze.
The family gathered all around
With talk that’s light and fun,
And our campfire popcorn popping,
S’mores… (until they’re done!)
Then when the flames are dying—
Burnt down to embers low,
Reverently we gather close
Around the firelit glow;
And out across the starlit lake
We send our evening songs,
And something steals into our hearts
That dwarfs all petty wrongs.
Yes, on a summer’s evening
This is my heart’s desire;
To gather at the old campground
Where home is ’round the fire.
