- It’s time to look for wild edibles such as young dandelion greens, morel mushrooms, and ramps. Always be certain of identification when foraging, as some plants and mushrooms have poisonous look-alikes.
- Caribou are beginning their spring migration.
- Bird migration is underway! Warblers are always the highlight, but orioles, grosbeaks, tanagers, flycatchers, and others are returning as well. Migrating warblers follow the trees’ spring leaf-out.
- Attract migrating hummingbirds by putting out sugar water feeders. Keep the syrup fresh.
- Take a wildflower walk. Beautiful spring species include trilliums, lady’s slippers, fringed polygala, trout lilies, bluebells, and hepaticas.
- Fish are spawning as the water temperature reaches specific points. Crappies spawn at 57° F, and largemouth and smallmouth bass at 55-65° F.
