This mockingbird is a gorgeous example of separation lighting in a wildlife photograph. There is a rim of light to contrast the gray bird from the gray background. Notice, too, this is a gentle amount of light that allows us to enjoy the texture of the feathers. Overpowering light would wash out the detail and would be less desirable.
