From the Editor’s Quill, August 2022: Contests

by | Aug 1, 2022 | 0 comments

This issue was fun to compile, but a lot of work. Three contests finished May 31, and reviewing the submissions took a lot of time. These pages are full, yet we still have more of your stories to run. Watch upcoming issues…

The only space left is this little block, and it is too small for all I’d like to say. I’ll use it to briefly announce some contests. Another issue will have more complete rules.

Nature Pairs Photography Challenge: October 31, 2022 is the deadline for sending pairs of photos that can be considered for a Nature Pairs Memory Game. Examples: male/female bird; adult/young; nest/egg; leaf/bark—use your creative juices and invent fun nature pairs. Send to NaturePairs@naturefriendmagazine.com. Include identity of the subjects and why they are a pair. We need your name, address, phone number, and subscriber number (renewal code on magazine mailing label).

“I Like Bugs” event: We will want your stories, puzzles, or Learning by Doing lesson about insects or arachnids. Could be sugaring or black-lighting for moths, visiting flower gardens, microscopic pursuits of insects, rearing caterpillars, etc. Can include your art and photos. Deadline July 31, 2023.

Wildflower Art Contest: Choose a wildflower and media, but be forewarned—color sells. It is really hard to beat color. And be creative. We encourage you to make your flower fun to view. Consider the setting—should it be a simple portrait of the blossom, or should it have a critter? Should it be by itself or in a clump? Dripping with rain or covered with dew? Deadline January 31, 2023.
