- July 4: Mercury is at greatest eastern elongation. See it low in the evening sky at sunset.
- July 28/29: The Delta Aquarid Meteor Shower runs from July 12 through August 23. However, it peaks in the early morning of July 29. With just a crescent moon, this should be a good year to see this shower at its best. Overall, this is an average shower with maybe 20 meteors per hour at its peak.
- August 12, Venus is slightly less than one degree south from Jupiter.
- August 12/13: Perseid Meteor Shower. The ZHR is 60. This shower is well known for its high quantity of bright meteors. Early morning is best.
With the Milky Way coming into a favorable position for evening viewing, all kinds of fun features are out there to be viewed. But don’t overlook the north either.
NGC 6520 and Barnard 86 are an open cluster/dark nebula pair.
Stephen’s Quintet is a fun target for large aperture telescopes and dark skies.
