Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS viewing chart
  • Hopefully comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) will be a highlight for viewing. See the chart above for its position at several dates.
  • Nov. 5 is the peak of the south Taurid meteor shower, and the 12th is the peak of the north Taurid meteor shower. These meteors tend to be few in number, but bright and slow. The 5th will have dark skies compared to the 12th this year, due to the phase of the moon.
  • Nov. 15 is not only a full moon night, but a supermoon as well. This is the last of three supermoons this year. The moon will be at its closest approach to Earth, so may appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.
  • Nov. 16 Mercury is at its greatest eastern elongation.
  • Nov. 17 Uranus is at opposition.
  • Nov. 16-18 is the peak of the Leonid meteor shower, though these meteors can be seen throughout the month.
  • Dec. 7 Jupiter will be at opposition.
  • Dec. 14 is the Geminid meteor shower. A full moon the next night will certainly reduce the number of visible meteors.
  • Dec. 18 Mars will be less than one degree south of the moon.
  • Dec. 21-22 there is a minor meteor shower called the Ursids meteor shower.
  • Dec. 25 Mercury will be at its greatest western elongation.
