Tadpoles

One time when we were cleaning the pond, we saw a tadpole in the mud. We picked it up and put it into a cup with water. We brought it to the house. Then we put it in a fish tank with water, a fake plant, and some rocks. We fed him fish food.

He was in there for a few weeks. When we got the tadpole, he had his back legs. One day we saw he had one front leg. We were watching the tadpole, and he was pushing on the other side. All of a sudden his other front leg popped out!

A week later his tail had disappeared, and he was a frog. Then we went fishing and let him go. It was neat having a tadpole as a pet.

Dad says, “The left leg comes out through a breathing hole on that side of the tadpole’s body, and the right leg breaks through the skin on the other side soon after. I missed seeing it happen, but was told it was quite amazing!”
