About the Wild Bird Art Contest

A big thanks to each of you who participated. We very much enjoyed seeing your work.

Judging the work was quite a challenge. We invited an artist to join us in the decision process. One of the challenges we faced was color versus pencil. We said you could choose your medium, and you could. However, color grabs attention, and that made choosing graphite pencil drawings hard.

We decided to address this challenge by adding three winners we had not promised an award—a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for graphite pencil drawings.

Another aspect we found a challenge—the rules said to put the bird(s) in a habitat or in an activity. So how much should we factor the background into our decisions? And how much should we consider creativity of the setting over the technical aspects of the drawing?

Thanks again to each one who participated. This was fun. I suspect another drawing contest will be announced at some point. —The Editors
